Saturday June 16th 2018. At the Armitage with Handsacre Village Hall. The Reverend Peter Hart and his wife Liz will open the event at 12 noon.

As in past years lots of stalls and activities are booked for the event. This year’s theme for the stalls will be the World Cup and a prize will be awarded to the most original.

Sports events will be held on the field for all ages, with medals for all the winners. Rich will entertain us and an open mike session will be taking place in the marquee. Lots of lovely refreshments will be available with homemade goodies  provided by the W.I. The British Legion will be manning the bar and the Cricket Club a barbecue.

We hope that there will be lots of entries for the Cake Competition this year, it’s a lemon drizzle cake. The recipe can be found below. The children’s competition is four decorated cakes, these do not have to be homemade as they will be judged on the decoration. Our Village Day Raffle will have lots of great prizes with first prize being £100.

The local history and photographs of the village, past and present will be displayed in meeting room one. Roy Fallows will also be there with his book about our local pubs.

Evening entertainment will be provided by a local group The Grateful Dads, starting at 7.30pm tickets £2 for adults children free but must be accompanied by an adult. The event will conclude with a Firework Display.

Lemmon Drizzle Cake Recipe

Ingredients
4oz Soft margarine
6oz Caster sugar
6oz Self raising flour
4 Tablespoons of milk
2 Large eggs
Grated rind of 1 lemon.

Syrup
3 Rounded tablespoons of Icing sugar
3 Tablespoons of fresh lemon juice

Method.
Grease and line a 2lb loaf tin. Set oven 350F or 177c or gas mark 4. Mix together the softened butter, sugar add eggs, sifted flour, finely grated lemon rind then add the milk. Mix well to a soft dropping consistency. Put in tin smooth top and Bake for 40–45 minutes until firm. Mix sifted icing sugar and lemon juice and pour over cake as soon as it comes out of the oven. Leave in tin until completely cold.

Everyone who enters MUST stick to the same ingredients and instructions to make it fair. All cakes must the be taken to Marquee between 11am and 12noon to be registered before judging.
