This year’s Summer Solstice Cross Country Run finally got under way last night, Wednesday 5th July, after being cancelled first time around due to the heat wave.

It was still a warm evening as the Junior Members started their races, with some opting for the 5 km marathon whilst the others took it a little easier with a 2.5 km fun run!

This year, the members and leaders decided that the money raised by the Cross Country Run would be split between the Club and St. Giles Hospice in memory of Steve Heathcote the club founder.

Steve founded the Youth Club nearly forty years ago.  He ran it alongside volunteer leaders for most of his adult life and well into his cancer diagnosis and illness.  Without Steve’s passion for the youth of the village, the club would not have survived the challenges of a changing and funding strapped county youth service.
